Bandwidth supply and management

One of the key strategic mandates of the NgREN is to be an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to its members. NgREN is therefore paying due attention to the supply of adequate and cheap bandwidth to subscribers and has acquired for the test phase, as a proof of concept, 3 x STM-1 capacity of pooled internet bandwidth for network wide access via a Multi Protocol Layer Switch (MPLS) mesh. As the network evolves into its second phase, the minimum dedicated internet bandwidth supply to each member will be 155mbps. This position has been upheld by the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and is already part of NgREN’s expansion plan
